Hem Your Own Kika Pants

Did you know that for many of our items you can just hem your own pants? I am petite and spend a fortune on alterations over the years. I have used hemming tape in the past but I knew that wouldn't be an option for my leggings that were just a tad too long for me. I got a tip from another kika gal to buy a rotary trimmer to make cutting a straight line easier. It was super easy! I just used an old cutting board that my daughter uses for coloring on and a ruler to make a straight edge.

I would use this method on most items except our Twill pants/capris. Other pants that other kika gals that have had success with cutting are ... Ponte Bootcut Pants ... Skinny Pants ... Bootcut with Pockets ... Yoga ... Leggings. The edge won't fray and only roll a tiny bit. 

Here are my Leggings before I cut them. I did cut them straight!

Now, while kika doesn't sell "maternity" clothes that doesn't mean that it isn't versatile enough to be worn before, during and after your pregnancy. Why settle for unflattering maternity wear that you can only wear for a few months? kika blog - Race Into Spring With Our Edgy Moto Crossover

Check out all the different styling tips on how to wear Brittney. It is very similar in cut to a very popular cardigan a few seasons ago (Kelly) but it is made from different fabrics. It has an interesting Tencel woven twill that creates this heathered look with a black solid Ponte knit along the sides. It is very slimming and the stretch Ponte makes it easy to wear. I have done this comparison before but these pants are a lot more similar than the ones I found before. Our clothing ranks up there in quality with the big name brands and this is just one way to showcase that. I love the feel of these pants, all the colors and the pocket details too. How about you?

Gabby in Mineral

Again this is an outfit I don't remember what I was doing. Out and about town I guess! I try to think of new ways to wear kikaPaprika so I can blog about it. Then I can look at it later and decide if it was a good look or not. I think I put this look together to see if the Cocoa brown Ponte Skinny Pants went with the Gabby in Mineral wash. Gabby was one of those items I didn't think I liked until I got it in a smaller size. I think it works ... do you?

I also wanted to show the waist band and pockets on these pants. So cute and stylish. You can wear these pants instead of leggings but they are pants so you can also wear them on their own. I still like to cover my butt when I wear them. How will you wear them?

Kendall in Amethyst

Again, I am behind on my blog posts. There just is never enough time in the day to keep up! I am just glad I remember to take a photo of my outfit even if it is a very quick one as I am going out the door or a quick snapshot before I peel everything off and head to bed. 

For this outfit I wanted something easy and casual since I was heading to a fundraiser event that my friends were hosting at a local wine bar. I saw someone else put our Navy Paisley Scarf together with a purple shirt and I liked the way it looked so I threw that on. It isn't my usual scarf tie so I must have made it up that day. Also, I just got these Skinny Pants and I unfortunately ordered them in the custom Cocoa option instead of the custom BLACK option. Oh well. They are now on sale on my sample rack for 50% off and I wore them once. My loss ... your gain. I will show you in another blog post the difference between the custom Cocoa and the signature Cocoa.

Janis in Autumn print

Ok, I am behind again on my blog posts. Big surprise huh? Well, at least I keep taking photos of my outfits but I am slow at posting them on my blog. This outfit was from Sept 29th, 2013 and I wore it out to have brunch with my girlfriends. It was at this brunch that one of my eyeglass lenses just popped out in the middle of our conversation! We all busted out laughing and almost got kicked out of the restaurant! Needless to say ... I took it as a sign to try something else for a change and I decided to get fitted for contacts. It is something I have been wanting to do for a while and so if I look different in photos... that is why! :)

I just got this new limited edition print offered in Janis and while it isn't something I would normally wear, I really like it! I like being forced out of my comfort zone once and a while. Tell me what you think!

Emily in Merlot is Stunning!

I have been waiting anxiously for my fall samples to arrive and most of them are here so it is time for you to shop! I recently got this piece and wasn't sure about it when I saw it in the Collection Summary (which is online now!) ... However, once I put it on I fell in LOVE! It feels like your most comfortable, beat up sweatshirt but has a unique style and shape that will be turning heads. People are bound to ask you where you got it! It is a sweatshirt trench coat in a way? I love the hood/collar and how you can style it a few different ways. Plus, around here in the Pacific NW it is nice to have a hood to pull over your hair because we really don't do umbrellas around here.

My Outfit for MamaCon!

I decided to do one big event this season and spend a bit more than I am used to to see how it goes. I heard lots of great things about MamaCon last year from my friends and decided to go to the Taste of MamaCon a few months ago. It was interesting and fun and I kind of got talked into it since a lot of my friends were going to have booths there. I didn't want to do it alone which is a problem since I am the only kikaPaprika consultant in Western Washington! I asked my friend Lindsey to help me out and I paid her in jewelry, a scarf and a  shirt. I also paid for her lunch too but I still think I got a good deal and it was really nice to have another person helping out. 

So, lots of people ask me what MamaCon is and it is a "Cool Conference for Modern Moms" according to their web site. It really was a lot of fun and wish I had more time to listen to the speakers. I might just go as an attendee next year but I did make some amazing connections this time with people that I hope will grow and blossom! I am featured for a few seconds in this highlights video. Anyway, I didn't have time to take great photos of my outfit that I wore to the Friday night event but I wanted something that I could load all my clothing in and still look great in. I wish I had picked comfort over style for the shoes but I went with flats the next day.  I was there all day on Saturday which was hard on my feet since I barely sat down the whole day. My Saturday outfit was similiar to the one posted in my "From Business to Bunco" blog post but with Sunset Stripe Tieks ballet flats and the Ponte Knit Skinny Pants shown below.

Blake goes to a book signing!

A good friend of mine and fellow kika lover had a book launch party last week and it was so much fun to see how far she has come. She is my social media guru and for many others too. Pick up her book on Amazon which is called "Six Word Lessons for Successful Social Media". I highly recommend it!

Anyway, I thought I would try something new this night which was wearing Blake in Imperial. It is a unique piece that you can wear forwards or backwards. I never took off my coat that evening so no one got to see the cool back on the piece. However, I got lots of compliments on the necklace, color of Blake and my jacket too. I guess the outfit was a hit! What do you think?

 I wore a camisole shaper under Blake but I was still a little body conscious wearing this outfit without a coat to cover my butt and tummy. I am sure I looked fine but it is a little tighter than I am using to wearing. I think I would go up a size in Blake just so I can have a bit more coverage for my comfort level. I just kept tugging at the elastic at the bottom of this piece. Maybe I just need more practice wearing it!
