Cameron vs Splendid

Have you checked out some of our new summer pieces from kika? I saved the best for last. I am in love with this skirt and I can see it as a summer staple. I like how breezy and cool skirts are to wear when it is hot outside. There were several maxi skirts with a side slit and stripes are a big thing too. This skirt from Splendid seemed the most similar and both are made in the USA. However, kika again wins in the color selection and the fact that our fabrics are made here in the USA too. Oh and the price is nice too. Which one would you choose?

Hem Your Own Kika Skirt

You may have read my other blog post on hemming your own kika pants so this one is just a follow up to that post. I am short and often many maxi skirts and pants are too long for me. What I like about kika is that you can hem your own stuff with a pair of scissors (or a rotary cutter). I am not home right now so I had to use scissors to hem my Cameron skirt. It is about 2 inches too long and I really want to wear it while I am in Sweden. I probably only cut off a little less than 2 inches as I wanted to make sure I didn't make it too short either.

I started off with only cutting a little off just in case I screwed it up and had to hem it with a sewing machine later. The trick was to go slow, have a really sharp pair of scissors and also have someone help you keep the fabric taught. I highly recommend a rotary cutter as it makes the whole thing so much easier but if you don't ... scissors will do just fine. Take a look!

Cameron & Viv in Sweden

I am not sure how much time I will have to showcase outfits while I am here on vacation but I will try! The weather has been super chilly (in the 40's and 50's) so I haven't got to wear much summer clothing. I did put on this outfit for midsummer which I ended up having to put on leggings, two shirts and a sweater and I was still cold. I also didn't get good photos of just the tank and skirt so I will have to try again another day.
Viv tank top in Black/White Heather Stripe (signature color) ~ $45
Cameron maxi skirt in Black/White Heather Stripe (signature color) ~ $85
Grey sweater is my own!

Sorry for the bad photo but I wanted to show off the side slit in the skirt which is hidden from this photo.
The slit is on the left side of the skirt and goes from the knee down to the floor.

You can see the slit a little more. I am wearing black leggings under the skirt. The sweater is not kika!

Welcome to Summer!

I wanted to make sure I wrote a blog post to highlight our small summer release. I am taking some time off from my kika business because I am taking a long vacation to Sweden this summer and will be gone for almost 2 months. I decided to not purchase the summer pieces because I won't be here to recoup my investment. I have a few pieces that I will order but they are probably going to Sweden with me!

I will still take orders online and can also take custom color orders as well but you will have to email or text me to do so. There will also be a time delay because I will be 9 hours ahead of most of you.

Here are the summer pieces and I have tried to collect as many "real person" photos too. They should be available online soon as well.

Check out "Denna" below and from the sketch you can't see the cute detail on the back. It is my new favorite shirt! The material is the same lightweight Tencel that Dawson, Paige, etc. is made from. I also can't wait to get my Matchstick Capris so I can get rid of my jean capris!

"Sally" is another new item that is also that same silky Tencel that I love. It comes in a solid and this print called "Bamboo". It is a great layering piece that you can throw on when the evenings get chilly or around here when the weather goes back to thinking we are in early Spring!

Briana looks like a shorter version of Portia with a cute high/low hemline. The fabric is the same as Portia and Pearl. I would love to see more photos of this! Portia is a great dress but is often too long for me.

Finally, I have a photo (still in the bag for shipping) of our new stripe fabric. Michaela and the new Hayden dress will be available in this stripe and it can be dyed into our 9 colors this season. You can also check out our new label and hangtag as well!
